What Happened
Charter Communications has added Warner Bros. Discovery's (WBD) Discovery+ streaming service to its bundle of apps available to Spectrum TV customers. Subscribers of Spectrum's TV Select plans and higher tiers for residential customers can activate the ad-supported version of Discovery+ at no additional cost. Some Discovery+ content is also available through WBD's HBO Max, which is already included in the same bundle. The bundled apps, which also include a Disney+/Hulu bundle, ESPN Unlimited, Paramount+ Essential, and others, are incorporated into the overall price of the Spectrum service.
Why this Matters to You
If you are a Spectrum TV customer with an eligible plan, you now have access to a wider range of streaming content without increasing your monthly bill. You can watch shows from networks like HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, and Animal Planet, including series like '90 Day Fiancé', 'House Hunters', 'Chopped', and 'Planet Earth'. You may choose to upgrade to an ad-free viewing experience on Discovery+ for an additional $4 per month. For customers without an eligible TV plan, streaming apps like Discovery+ can still be purchased individually through The Spectrum App Store.
What's Next
Eligible Spectrum customers can activate their free Discovery+ access immediately. The bundling of multiple streaming services into traditional TV packages appears to be a continuing strategy for cable providers, which may lead to similar offers from other companies in the future.
