This move signals a strategic expansion into film production for the Bologna-based company.

What Happened

I Wonder Pictures, a Bologna-based Italian distributor, has launched a new production arm named All at Once. The company hired former Sky Italy entertainment channels chief Roberto Pisoni last year. The new unit is already co-producing several films. It is working with Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude on a film with the working title 'Call a Large Hound Near', in collaboration with Bucharest-based Saga Film. All at Once is also producing a new feature by Hungarian director Gábor Reisz, with the working title 'Ember Végez', in collaboration with Budapest-based Proton Cinema; principal photography for this film recently concluded in Budapest. Furthermore, All at Once is collaborating with Finnish director Teemu Nikki and producer Jani Pösö on '200 Liters of Gold', a sequel to the Finnish film '100 Liters of Gold'.

Why this Matters to You

If you are a fan of international and arthouse cinema, you may see a wider variety of distinctive European films reach theaters and streaming platforms. The distributor behind 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' and 'The Zone of Interest' is now directly backing new projects from award-winning directors, which could lead to more ambitious and diverse films being made and distributed. This expansion could also foster more cross-border collaboration within the European film industry.

What's Next

The newly launched production arm is actively moving projects forward. The film 'Ember Végez' has recently finished shooting and will likely enter post-production. The other co-productions, 'Call a Large Hound Near' and '200 Liters of Gold', are in development and pre-production phases. The success of these initial projects could determine the scale and focus of All at Once's future production slate.
