  • A new 'Fists' skill-tree for unarmed combat has been added for the character Oongka.
  • The update includes a 'Night Tone Mode' graphical option designed to reduce eye strain by softening colors and brightening shadows.
  • The patch is rolling out on all major platforms including Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store.

What Happened

Pearl Abyss has released Patch 1.06 for its open-world action adventure game, Crimson Desert. The update introduces a major new feature: special mounts, which include creatures like mountain goats, wolves, bears, boars, tigers, lions, raptors, camels, kuku birds, and iguanas. Players obtain these mounts by gaining a creature's trust through feeding, subduing, or specific taming methods. Saddles for the mounts can be purchased at city saddleries, such as Hernand Saddlery for wolves and bears and Varnia Saddlery for camels.

The patch also adds an 'Extraction' feature, allowing players to recover a portion of materials used during equipment refinement at smithies. This system recovers 100% of special materials like Artifacts and Aeserion's scale, and approximately 70% of common materials like iron ore and copper ore. A new unarmed combat skill-tree titled 'Fists' has been added for the character Oongka.

Other additions include the 'Sigil of Valor' item, which allows pet dogs to attack enemies and is sold by the Secret Shop NPC in Pororin. A new 'Night Tone Mode' graphical option softens and darkens colors while brightening shaded areas to reduce eye strain. The update also adds sword sheaths with a toggleable 'Display Sheath' option and a claw machine at the Laughing Marionette location offering items like Abyss Artifacts. Various bug fixes and improvements for combat, UI, graphics, localization, equipment enhancement, and fishing are included.

Why this Matters to You

If you play Crimson Desert, this update directly expands your gameplay options. You may now spend time taming a wider variety of creatures to use as mounts, which could change how you explore the game's world. The new Extraction feature could make experimenting with equipment refinement less costly by allowing you to recover most of your invested materials. The addition of the Fists skill-tree and the Sigil of Valor item offers new combat styles and pet utility to try. For players who experience eye strain during long sessions, the Night Tone Mode may provide a more comfortable visual experience.

What's Next

The patch is currently rolling out to all supported platforms—PC, Mac via Steam and other stores, PlayStation, and Xbox. With the game having sold over 5 million copies, this substantial content update is likely to maintain player engagement. Further updates may continue to build on these new systems, potentially adding more special mounts or refining the extraction and combat mechanics based on player feedback.

Perspectives

“
Game Critics find Crimson Desert to be 'a bit derivative and charmless' and note that the title has received 'middling reviews'.
“
Industry Analysts observe that while the game's initial reception was average, its 'considerable post-game support' could allow it to become 'one of the strongest games released' by the end of the year.
