What Happened

Beta Cinema has added two new films to its slate for the Cannes Market. The first, 'The Other Side', is an Alpine-set adventure thriller starring Nina Hoss. It was written and directed by Mariko Minoguchi and is set in a near-future society shaped by the aftermath of a pandemic. Nina Hoss plays Hanna, a former doctor living in isolation after losing her family to disease, whose solitude is tested when she encounters an injured stranger. The film is produced by Trimafilm in co-production with Rundfilm and also stars Precious Mariam Sanusi and Barbara Petritsch. Felix Pflieger is the director of photography. The second film, 'The Rome Eight', is an underdog story based on true events directed by Hannu Salonen. Set in a divided post-war Germany, it follows rowing coach Karl Adam, who uses radical training methods to transform a group of misfits into a crew that achieves victory at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. The film is currently in post-production.

Why this Matters to You
